Many supporters of the Leeds Northern Union club will regret to hear that Fred Perrett, the Welsh international forward who came to Headingley at the beginning of the 1914 season has been transferred to Hull.
For some reason or other Perrett never impressed the Leeds Committee but he is a rare scrummager weighing over 15 stone and standing 5ft 11inches in height.
1913-1914 season he played in all the Welsh international Matches, At only 23 years of age and a teetotaller and non smoker, into the bargain Hull have obtained in Perrett a forward who should yet make good
in the Northern Union football, before joining Leeds he was a player of the Neath club.
The 23 year old played his first game for Hull FC on the 10 Apr 1914, winning by 23 points to Halifax 3 points. It took a few games to settle into Hulls team but soon showed how effective he can be especially playing havoc amongst the rivals indeed Perrett who plays most effetely away from home is fast becoming one of Hulls leading forwards.
Playing 32 games then in 1915 he decided to join Kitcheners WW1 army
and serving first in the Welsh Guards he was then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and transferred to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
Towards the end of the war Fred was seriously injured and died of his wounds and buried in France.
