HULL F. C. WINS THEIR FIRST HOME ENGAGEMENT AT THE BOULEVARD Saturday 21 Sept 1895.

29 August 1895 the Northern Union now Rugby League
was formed when 22 Northern towns decided to break away from the Rugby Union as a result of the Rugby Union insistence that the game should remain amateur and if players in the Northern clubs cannot play rugby football without having to be paid for lost work time due to travelling to away matches they should not be playing at all.
This was Hull first game following the break away from the Rugby Union although still playing under current Ruby Union rules.
Hull played their first home match on Saturday and at the same time opened the club new home at the Hull Boulevard ground which has been made into a fine football enclosure. There was a great amount of enthusiasm shown by football supporters who mustered in such strong force that it was feared that all who were desirous of obtaining admission could not do so and it was estimated that fully 8000 passed the turnstiles.
Play was confined mostly to the forwards during the initial stages of the game.
The forwards kept the ball very much to themselves and it was not until Hull got a free kick that they pressed. However, relief came to Liversedge by long kicking. Some good passing between C. Townend, Thompson, and J. Townend enabled the home team to gain ground. Play to the end of the first half was extremely even and when the period of relief came neither side had scored.
In the second half Hull had the advantage of the wind and shortly after starting scored a minor.
Some splendid passing by Thompson and Lempriere and Wiles and Jacketts resulted in the last-named scoring a try, this was not converted. Before the end came the visitors had pressed but Hull returned the attack and when the whistle blew Hull were pressing and the score stood, Hull, one try (three points), Liversedge nothing.
